Chinese firm Ninebot acquired Segway personal transportation company
Back in 2001 it was called "a secret invention being bigger than the Internet or the PC". Even Amazon founder Bezos was quoted that "Cities will be built around this device." Today Segway was acquired by Ninebot, a Beijing-based transportation robotics startup.
The deal amount is not disclosed. Ninebot had recently received an $80 million investment from Chinese tech firm Xiaomi. Both Ninebot and Segway will continue to operate under their existing brand names.
